Alpine Skiing
The skiing area at Whistler – Blackcomb resort encompasses over 8,000 acres, which guarantees that you will find your favourite slope or trail to develop your skiing technique. 38 lifts vary in size and type to fit all needs and skill levels. Sliding carpets are available for beginners and large gondolas are ready to lift you to the top of the mountain – 2,284 meters in height. Skiers and snowboarders will discover more than 200 various routes, including the Olympic trails created for the top-class competitions of 2010. One of the longest trails in Whistler is 11 kilometers long!
An exclusive Peak to Peak gondola that opened in December 2008, is the longest and highest lift of its kind anywhere. The Gondola closes the distance between the peaks of Whistler and the Blackcomb Mountains.
Please note: because Whistler welcomes skiers and snowboarders of all skill levels, including children, it is essential that more experienced riders remain alert at all times. All guests are reminded to abide by the Alpine Responsibility Code, exercise caution while on trail and be considerate of safety of others.
SnowboardingThis may come as a surprise, but the first snowboarders began riding in Whistler and Blackcomb only in the early 1990s! Before that riding had not been permitted. Ross Rebagliatti was one of the first professional sportsmen to discover the beautiful slopes of Whistler. He still lives and trains here.
Now not only all slopes at the resort are open for snowboarding, but there are also 10 special snowboarding parks with high-pipes, ski-jumps and barriers.
Whistler is now an excellent place to train, and many international riding teams reside here. A number of snowboarding contests throughout the season also add to the popularity of the resort.
Cross Country Skiing
While Whistler is famous for its mountain skiing and snowboarding slopes, there are also plenty of fabulous trails to go cross-country skiing. No lineups. No noise. Just a pair of skis and the beauty of nature all around.
Lost Lake Park offers 32 kilometres of groomed routes, including 4 kilometres of lit routes (you'll appreciate those!). The trails are suitable for all skill levels, novice, amateurs and professional skiers alike. Rental services provide a variety of sizes and types of cross-country skis for the guests without their own gear.
Callaghan Valley and Whistler Olympic Park that opened in December 2007 boasts the best trails in the world designed specifically for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games! Skiing through the Olympic and Paralympic biathlon and the cross-country stadiums is sure to impress even the most demanding guests. The Olympic Park is located 18 kilometres southwest of Whistler via Highway 99.
